Margaret, Here is what I found out: Get some cotton balls and place a few drops of peppermint, eucalyptus, or spearmint oil on some cotton balls and position them where you suspect they are. Mice may appear behind appliances such as a fridge, washer, or dryer. Also place them in areas of a attic or garage. Look for places where mice may be entering the house and place cotton balls there as well. This can deter mice but further measures may be required if the infestation is serious. – See more at: http://www.essentialoilspedia.com/pest-control/#sthash.2UhRgXwC.dpuf
According to a systemic review and meta-analysis published in Pain Research and Treatment, there is a significant positive effect of aromatherapy, compared to placebos or control treatments, in reducing pain. Natural insecticide, bug repellent, and bite reliever. Tea tree oil has long been used as a natural bug repellent by native Australian aboriginal people. Chinese research in 2016 found tea tree to be effective against the cereal weevil, Sitophilus zeamais.12 The cereal weevil is considered to be an extremely destructive pest to stored cereals all over the world. Tea tree also helps to relieve the pain, itching, and inflammation of insect bites.
You either have to have access to chemical lab equipment (eg. a separating funnel or more distillation equipment) or you need to carefully separate the oil and water by hand. You can try using a turkey baster (not very precise) to suck off the water or try to wick off the water with cotton or paper towels, but, either way, you are very likely to lose some of the oils. Try checking out eBay for less expensive essenciers.

The great thing about these recipes, is that you can experiment and change them based on what you like! So if you start with the recipe, but find you need more, you can add in more! My diffusers are all mid-size and hold between 100-150 ml of water. These recipes are based on that size (most home diffusers are similar in size). You can still use these recipes with yours! If you find you need to add more oil since you’re adding more water, add in a few extra drops of each and see how that does for you. Sometimes in a large open space I find that I need to add in a little more myself. 😉 Hope that helps… have you tried any yet?? I’d love to hear which ones you like!
In fact, the benefits of diffusing essential oils into the air are one of the main reasons I’m loving these essential oil recipes. When you apply heat to essential oils, many studies show it can actually denature many of the most important chemicals and compounds, so you are essentially just diffusing the oils for scent, and not for the beneficial aspects.

First, thank you so much for posting these blends! I am so eager to try them. May I ask though – how does the size of your diffuser (and it’s water capacity) matter to the oil amounts in each ‘recipe’? For instance, my daughter has a smaller diffuser than me. Her’s holds a total of 120 ml. Mine on the other hand holds up to 300 ml. I almost never fill it to capacity with water, but it did start me wondering what water amount these blends were based upon.

Dry the plant material. Drying reduces the amount of oil in each plant, but can greatly increase how much essential oil you make per batch. This is because you’ll be able to fit more material into each batch. Drying should be done slowly and away from direct sunlight.[5] Commercially grown plants such as lavender and peppermint may be allowed to dry in the field after cutting for a day or so.

As an anti-aging antioxidant. Oregano oil’s high antioxidant content makes it perfect for fighting the effects of aging, which is all about free radicals creating havoc throughout the body. If using it topically, be sure to dilute as described below because oregano can be a “hot” oil when applied to the skin. Always avoid the skin around the eyes and other sensitive areas.
Never apply a pure essential oil directly to your skin. Essential oils are extremely potent in their undiluted form and need to be added to carrier oil, such as almond, apricot kernel or olive oil. Do not ingest essential oils 12. If you suffer from a pre-existing medical condition, check with your doctor before using essential oils, as some can interact with medications 2. Pregnant women and young children should not use essential oils unless under the guidance of a medical professional 2.

Essential oils are highly-concentrated essences derived from different parts of aromatic plants, including bark, leaves and flowers 2. The oils are used in a number of ways, from skin-care products to aromatherapy. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of essential oils available and choosing the best one for your needs can be overwhelming 2. Fortunately, there are a handful of commonly-used oils that cover most of your needs and can be found easily at local heath-food stores or specialty shops.

If you are frequently faced with digestive problems, it is a good idea to try treating your digestive problems with essential oils. Oils such as ginger, tarragon, peppermint and clove are some of the many essential oils that help in digestive problems by reducing inflammation, relaxing the muscles in the digestive tract and reducing the symptoms of nausea, upset stomach and bloating.
Many essential oils are steam distilled, which involves simmering the plant material to produce steam, which travels through a tube, which is then run through cold water. The liquid that forms from condensation will be in two parts, a water compound, and an oil compound. The water compound is where floral waters, such as lavender and rose water, come from. The oils that rise to the top are DIY essential oils.

Essential oils may help to reduce toxicity by promoting the detoxification of your home and body. These days, we are all inhaling and ingesting a number of chemicals and environmental toxins that can be dangerous for our health. Some work as mild diuretics, thereby increasing urine production and improving detoxification. And some oils aid digestion and promote the detoxification of toxins that buildup in the body. (18)

Beneficial for people with diabetes. Some studies have shown that several different species of eucalyptus help to reduce blood sugar levels in mice.11 Also because eucalyptus is such an excellent vasodilator, the entire body benefits from this increase in blood circulation. Diabetics commonly lack good circulation, especially to their extremities, which is a dangerous situation and can result in limb amputation. To help combat this, dilute eucalyptus oil (as described below) and massage it into the legs, hands, and feet as needed.
