Determine when to harvest your plant material. The amount of oil in a plant depends on where it is in its life cycle, so it’s important to harvest each species of plant at the right time. You need to do some research to figure out when to harvest the plants you want to distill. For example, lavender should be harvested when about half the flowers on the stem have withered. Rosemary, on the other hand, should be harvested when the plants are in full bloom.
Improve blood flow to brain. Eucalyptus oil is known to be a vasodilator, meaning it dilates, or opens, blood vessels. In 1994, Austrian researchers discovered that eucalyptol, a phytochemical in eucalyptus oil (also known as 1,8-cineol), improved global blood flow to the brain after only 20 minutes of inhalation.9 A newer study released in 2016 by Korean researchers found that eucalyptol is also able to pass through the blood-brain barrier, a protective membrane that separates potentially harmful substances from harming delicate brain tissues. This research also found eucalyptol’s high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to be helpful in the management of chronic conditions such as respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, and degenerative nerve and brain diseases.10
Health benefits: It is great for uplifting moods and fighting depression, and it has also been popularized for eliminating gas build-up, warming the respiratory system, reducing body odor, curing infections, relaxation, promoting urination, and the subsequent removal of body toxins. This useful essential oil also strengthens gums and stops hemorrhaging, cures inflammation, improves circulation, and can help cure arthritis, while calming anxiety and relieving tension.
Everyone's making ice cream these days … perfect for the summer.Summer Solstice is today, but here's an astronomical factoid if you need another reason to celebrate the warmer weather. Summer solstice is the longest day of the year, and also marks the point where Earth is furthest from the sun. But, because of inertia, July 4-5 are typically the &qtes;slowout" days of the year: the days in which Earth's orbital speed is the slowest. That's why everyone is so laid back in the summer!
Health benefits: The uses of bitter almond essential oil are widely ranged, and include killing worms, reducing fever, killing bacteria, germs, and fungi, sedation and reducing inflammation. It can also cause numbness and act as an anesthetic or desensitizing agent. It is a purgative that increases urination, and helps remove excess water, salt, toxins, and fat from the body, while countering the effects of intoxicants, curing spasms, and helping to cure hydrophobia, which is the fear of water.
Essential oils are highly concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. Sometimes they are called volatile aromatic oils because of their high concentration of the aromatic compounds. For example, the oil of “absolutes” is obtained from delicate flowers by either enfleurage or solvent extraction. Absolute oils often mimic the natural aroma of the plant and are also more colored and viscous than essential oils. (1)
As an infection fighter. A 2016 research study found oregano oil to be effective against 59 different strains of bacteria, including multi-drug-resistant bacteria. It was even found to be effective against bacteria known to cause respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis patients.4 Oregano is also helpful when suffering from urinary tract infections. If taking oregano oil internally, please do so only under the guidance of a qualified aromatherapist and/or healthcare provider.
Young children and the elderly may be more sensitive to essential oils. So you may need to dilute them more. And you should totally avoid some oils, like birch and wintergreen. In even small amounts, those may cause serious problems in kids 6 or younger because they contain a chemical called methyl salicylate. Don’t use essential oils on a baby unless your pediatrician says it’s OK.
The holidays are a magical time full of joy, laughter, family...oh, AND STRESS! This can be a really tough season for us. Traveling, buying gifts, cooking, huge to-do lists… it really piles up and fast. We understand and that's why we’ve created this list of essential oil diffuser blends to help you get through this season with a little more joy and a lot less dread.
I use Cinnamon Bark from Spark Naturals. I’m sure you could use either one, that is just the one I use. Also, make sure to get a good quality oil since diffusing the oil gets the particles and benefits into the air in your home and air you breathe. I also love to change up what I diffuse throughout the day! You can either use more than one diffuser so that you can let it run until the water/oil is gone, or just try not filling it all the way and using less oil so it can run for a shorter amount of time. That way, you’re not dumping out anything to change what oils you use. I usually let my diffusers run until what I have in the “tank” is gone and then I change what blend I’m using 🙂
As a general rule always mix your essential oils with a carrier oil before applying them to your body!!! There are VERY FEW exceptions to this rule and many company’s out there will lead you to believe it safe and even teach their sales people that it is. Essential Oils even though they are natural are still chemical cocktails and can cause injury and irritation when not used properly. So if you are not a trained Aroma-therapist then always dilute to be safe.
