Produced only in Australia, tea tree oil is a very powerful antiseptic and antibacterial essential oil. Tea tree oil can be used to treat fungal infections such as athletes foot and nail infections, relieves itching caused by insect bites and can be diluted into a mouthwash to treat gingivitis or bad breath. It is also one of the few oils that can be applied undiluted, although this should be done with extreme caution as it can cause a reaction in those with sensitive skin.
Essential oils are highly concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. Sometimes they are called volatile aromatic oils because of their high concentration of the aromatic compounds. For example, the oil of “absolutes” is obtained from delicate flowers by either enfleurage or solvent extraction. Absolute oils often mimic the natural aroma of the plant and are also more colored and viscous than essential oils. (1)
As a digestive aid. Peppermint oil is superb for helping to relieve indigestion and heartburn. Put just one drop of peppermint oil into a glass of water and drink. It works much more quickly than peppermint tea due to the concentrated nature of peppermint oil. If it’s too strong for you, just dilute it (see dilution instructions below) and rub it across the tummy.
Thank you for your lovely article. I am very happy to know about the Crock pot! I have just planted a herb garden with Lavender, Rosemary, Sage, Oregon, Thyme and I also have a very old lemon tree. I have used your recipes to make soap. I can use the lavender in the crockpot Correct? I too am interested if I can make oil out of the lemon? And would I add a branch of a Lavender with flower in the soap after I heated it up, (the soap I mean). Thank you Debra!

I bought this to use and help organize my essential oil collection. I was even able to prop the bigger bottles at an angle on the bottom row. I love it! It was easy to assemble. At first I was confused by the “frosted” white sides. So I emailed Big Hala and they were so helpful and explained that it’s just a protective film to prevent scratches. So I looked at it closer and removed the film and it’s clear acrylic! I docked a star because each acrylic row seem to have a little “extra scratchy” piece in the middle, probably from production. But overall it’s great and the measurements were exact.

It also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties according to Aroma Web, making it a good remedy for acne, eczema and other skin problems.
First, thank you so much for posting these blends! I am so eager to try them. May I ask though – how does the size of your diffuser (and it’s water capacity) matter to the oil amounts in each ‘recipe’? For instance, my daughter has a smaller diffuser than me. Her’s holds a total of 120 ml. Mine on the other hand holds up to 300 ml. I almost never fill it to capacity with water, but it did start me wondering what water amount these blends were based upon.

Health benefits: It has been commonly used to treat rheumatism and arthritis, tighten gums and muscles, as well as helping to stop hair loss.  It reduces the chances of hemorrhage, increases urination and removal of toxins, relieves obstructed menstruation and regulates the cycle, expels phlegm & catarrh, repels insects, lightens skin tone, stimulates systemic functions, and generally tones up the body.
According to a systemic review and meta-analysis published in Pain Research and Treatment, there is a significant positive effect of aromatherapy, compared to placebos or control treatments, in reducing pain. Researchers evaluated 12 studies on this topic and found that essential oils were especially helpful in treating postoperative pain, obstetrical pain and gynecological pain. (14)

I’ve long been a candle addict. There’s nothing like lit candles, good music and the ambiance it creates for a relaxing evening at home. And while I haven’t completely kicked the candle habit to the curb, I’m being wiser about my choices for the more occasional lighting of only soy or beeswax while avoiding the paraffin (toxin releasing) candles.  But an even better option, which I pretty much use all day long while at home are our essential oil diffusers. Definitely a new kind of addiction. Another plus? It’s elicited more, “Wow, it smells great in here,” comments from guests than my mix of candles ever did!
