Used the right way, they can help you feel better with few side effects. For example, you may feel less nauseated from chemotherapy cancer treatment if you breathe in ginger vapors. You may be able to fight certain bacterial or fungal infections, including the dangerous MRSA bacteria, with tea tree oil. In one study, tea tree oil was as effective as a prescription antifungal cream in easing symptoms of a fungal foot infection.

I use Cinnamon Bark from Spark Naturals. I’m sure you could use either one, that is just the one I use. Also, make sure to get a good quality oil since diffusing the oil gets the particles and benefits into the air in your home and air you breathe. I also love to change up what I diffuse throughout the day! You can either use more than one diffuser so that you can let it run until the water/oil is gone, or just try not filling it all the way and using less oil so it can run for a shorter amount of time. That way, you’re not dumping out anything to change what oils you use. I usually let my diffusers run until what I have in the “tank” is gone and then I change what blend I’m using 🙂

I think there might be a bit of confusion here. The recipe is for an oil infusion, which is a wonderful ingredient with many different applications. However, it is not exactly an essential oil and certainly not as potent. Making a true essential oil involves the use of a still, and as I said above this can be quite a costly investment. Instead, I offer the alternative of an oil infusion.

A few tips: When you're looking at the many uses of essential oils I would encourage you to look for the body systems you're wishing to nurture or support, and the oils that work with that system. When it comes to particular emotions, you can also get hints from the oil itself as to the impact it has on our mind and emotions. For instance, tree oils can help us feel more grounded with their earthier aromas. Start small, seek guidance, support, and scientific resources, and feel empowered to learn as you go.

Many essential oils are steam distilled, which involves simmering the plant material to produce steam, which travels through a tube, which is then run through cold water. The liquid that forms from condensation will be in two parts, a water compound, and an oil compound. The water compound is where floral waters, such as lavender and rose water, come from. The oils that rise to the top are DIY essential oils.
Owing to the antiseptic and antibacterial properties, essential oils are also used as excellent cleaning agents. Different essential oils are used as solutions to cleaning stubborn stains as well as molds. Essential Oils such as YlangYlang and Frankincense help reduce your stress by sending calming signals to your brain and improving your mood significantly. Essential oils can thus help relieve stress and anxiety by bringing mental as well as physical changes in your body that are likely to be reasons for your stress and anxiety. You can also apply a few drops of certain essential oils to your temples in order to get instant relaxation.

And a 2014 study involving 82 participants evaluated the effectiveness of aromatherapy for elderly people with chronic pain and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Researchers found that after four weeks of treatment with essential oils, there was a significant reduction in negative emotions, including feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, among the intervention group. You either have to have access to chemical lab equipment (eg. a separating funnel or more distillation equipment) or you need to carefully separate the oil and water by hand. You can try using a turkey baster (not very precise) to suck off the water or try to wick off the water with cotton or paper towels, but, either way, you are very likely to lose some of the oils. Try checking out eBay for less expensive essenciers.
Hi Kristi! I wouldn’t necessarily run all at the same time with different blends as it could just be too much for your sense of smell, unless they are in different rooms and you won’t notice the scent from another room. I do have one in my bedroom and another in my kitchen area and almost always have different blends in them, although usually they aren’t running simultaneously since I’m not in both of the rooms at the same time. I also have one in the kids room where I’ll run some soothing blends in there for a little while before they go to sleep 🙂

As a meditation aid. Use frankincense oil to help calm and center the mind, to promote spiritual awareness, and to cultivate a sense of inner peace while meditating. Frankincense contains compounds known as sesquiterpenes which work directly on the limbic system of the brain, the center of memory and emotions. Frankincense is calming, grounding, and centering to the nervous system. Diffuse it into your room, or just inhale directly from the bottle at the start of your meditation.
