Health benefits: This versatile essential oil soothes inflammation, improves circulation and removes uric acid, while giving relief from rheumatism, protecting against sepsis, reducing spasms, tightening gums and muscles, and also stopping hemorrhage. Furthermore, it provides relief from excess gas, heals scars and after-marks, increases perspiration, promotes digestion, gives relief from coughs and excess phlegm, lowers blood pressure, and improves stomach health, while also boosting the immune system.
And a 2014 study involving 82 participants evaluated the effectiveness of aromatherapy for elderly people with chronic pain and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Researchers found that after four weeks of treatment with essential oils, there was a significant reduction in negative emotions, including feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, among the intervention group. Some practitioners also use it to inhibit bacterial growth, eliminate gas, and improve brain and memory function, while helping to expel phlegm & catarrh. Finally, it is known to break fevers, clear bowels, bring color to the skin, improve stomach health, and promote sweating, which helps removes toxins from the body.


Simple smells such as lavender, chamomile, and rosewater may help keep you calm. You can breathe in or rub diluted versions of these oils on your skin. Scientists think they work by sending chemical messages to parts of the brain that affect mood and emotion. Although these scents alone won’t take all your stress away, the aroma may help you relax.

It kills E. coli, Salmonella, Helicobacter pylori (implicated with stomach ulcers), Staphylococcus aureus (also known as golden staph), Streptococcus pneumoniae, and many others, with no observed side effects. It can take up to 60,000 roses to produce one ounce of rose oil, according to Rose-Works. “The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils” by Julia Lawless recommends rose oil for treatment of eczema, depression, stress and symptoms of menopause and sexual dysfunction 12.
Calming, stress relieving, sleep promoter. Feeling stressed out or having a night of insomnia? Dilute as described below, and rub lavender oil along the sides of the neck and/or breathe it in deeply. You can also place a drop or two into a warm bath before you relax into it. Lavender has wonderful calming and soothing effects, and promotes deeper sleep.

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. Sometimes they are called volatile aromatic oils because of their high concentration of the aromatic compounds. For example, the oil of “absolutes” is obtained from delicate flowers by either enfleurage or solvent extraction.
